Project Scope

Charlie Palmer's Metrazur was the first tenant of the re-created East Balcony of Grand Central Station. This three-star, 8,000 sq.ft. restaurant boasted a dramatic primary dining area, a private banquet room, lounge, display kitchen and bar. The primary dining room, which sits under Grand Central's Main Terminal Hall Ceiling, is distinguished by the presence of a backlit luminous onyx wall. Our challenge was to create a family of understated yet effective lighting solutions responsive to the needs of a modern restaurant environment while maintaining compatibility with Grand Central's historic context. The restaurant has closed and the space re-born as a new Apple Store.
