Project Scope

Opening in January of 2017, the Second Avenue Subway is the first new subway line attempted by NYC Transit (NYCT) since 1934, and will stretch from a terminal station at 125th St. to the financial district in lower Manhattan.  Envisioned as a high-performance and environmentally progressive infrastructure project, the system will be comprised of 16 underground stations linked at key points to existing NYCT stations.

Working closely with the AECOM/Arup Joint Venture engineering team, DGA developed lighting criteria standards and design approaches for all station public areas, subsequently adopted by NYCT as its new standard for New Underground Stations.  DGA designed a family of transportation-appropriate luminaires and integrated wireway systems as part of the initial Phase One construction package.
