Project Scope

Built in 1937, the Newark Dock Bridges serving Newark Penn Station are among the busiest rail/lift bridges in North America. As part of an ongoing series of redevelopment efforts envisioned for the Passaic River waterfront, DGA was retained during Spring 2004 to prepare a study for the night time illumination of the Newark Dock Bridges. DGA's scope of work included the examination of historic precedents, identification of key design parameters and appropriate technologies and the creation of alternate lighting design strategies responsive to the bridges' historic legacy, future use and strategic location.
