Project Scope

DGA began work in 2006 with SOM on the $121 million modernization of the 30-floor Everett M. Dirksen Federal Office Building and Courthouse: a Chicago architectural landmark and regional headquarters for the US Court system.

A key challenge in this effort was to maintain the historical character of the original architectural design by Mies van der Rohe, while integrating 21st century technology and energy efficiency standards.  The building will ultimately achieve LEED Certification status.

DGA’s scope of work included an existing conditions and programming analysis of light level requirements comparing the latest GSA, US Courts and PBS guidelines, as well as lighting design services for office areas within the courthouse complex.
