We are a company of skeptical idealists, optimistic utopians, determined practitioners, teachers.
While fascinated with the latest technologies, our practice adopts the “newest new things” only after careful vetting. None of us wants to be surprised by unanticipated results or fall victim to industry fads. Consequently we take apart (and, ideally, put back together) prototypes and samples of lighting equipment, pore through photometric test reports, and spend time in the field with mockups, as needed to underwrite our position as advocates for our clients. We thrive on challenges and strive always to improve.
We’re vitally interested in all aspects of lighting: not only the end result, but the best way to obtain the finest result (via analysis, details and costing). We immerse ourselves in all project phases as fluent and capable collaborators. We are grateful when clients return (and, thankfully, most do) for this validates our all-encompassing approach to problem solving.
We are a community of teachers. Some of us have held formal teaching positions (at City College of New York, Teachers College at Columbia University, University of Illinois U-C) and so we are primed to share our knowledge with our clients and one another. Passing along to others “how” to see lighting, to determine what makes good design and bad, to quantify – this we love and always will.
We embrace our duty to our community and express this by way of projects taken on a pro bono basis. Celebration, remembrance or simply passing the torch: the projects below are a few of those closest to our hearts and reflective of our values.
